Position Overview:
Consumer Brands is looking for an energetic and self-motivated individual who enjoys interacting with the media and sharing the stories of brands that make a difference in the home of American consumers, to join us as a media relations intern this summer. As the association that champions growth and innovation for food, beverage, household and personal-care product companies, Consumer Brands represents the makers of the iconic household brands consumers love and trust. This person will work hand-in hand with the media relations director and Consumer Brands spokespeople to share the industry’s story and economic impact with the press while also gaining experience in marketing, digital media and content strategy by working with additional members of the communications team. ​ 

 
Key areas of responsibility:

  • Assist in crafting press releases and media pitches  

  • Create and update media lists  

  • Aid in preparing spokespeople for media interviews by conducting research and developing media briefing documents 

  • Draft media talking points based on key policy issues 

  • Track media coverage and update media tracker daily 

  • Contribute to additional team initiatives and priorities, as needed 


Requirements:

  • Intern candidates are current students (sophomores and above) pursuing their undergraduate degree, ideally in public relations, communications, media relations, journalism or equivalent. 

  • Good understanding of the current media landscape. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
