Job Summary:
We are looking for a Directional Drill Operator to join our growing team. The Operator will be responsible for operating drilling equipment and/or locating the predetermined path to the exit point. They will operate safely, avoiding utilities and other obstacles. We are looking for experienced individuals with knowledge of the telecommunications construction industry.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Operate drilling and various other construction equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.
- Drill and/or locate predetermined path to exit point.
- Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers to assist in support of drilling operations.
- Responsible for regular maintenance and care of the assigned heavy equipment, produce any documentation needed for each job, daily communication with managers is a must.
- Loads and hauls the machine (if appropriately licensed).
- Drives, sets up, and breaks down safely and efficiently.
- Operates heavy equipment near active utilities.
- Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them
- Rigging and setting of structures
- Along with operating must be willing to assist in other activities such as but not limited to
-Placement of conduit in open trenches
-Proofing conduits
-Potholing existing utilities
-Forming and pouring of concrete
-Placement of asphalt - Avoids any marked utilities and implements all precautions to prevent utility strikes.
- Communicates with supervisors for job details.
- Before the equipment is utilized, walk path to ensure all utilities have been located and develop a plan for going above or below each utility or obstacle in the path.
- Inspects and maintains job equipment.
- Adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules.
- Travel overnight to various sites as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- High school or equivalent education.
- Valid Driver’s license (unrestricted) and acceptable driving record
- Reliable transportation to various jobsites
- Subject to pre-employment background check, drug test, and MVR
- Ability to follow instructions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with crew, leadership and clients
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and policies
- Must be able to meet physical demands of the position; ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Excellent vision or the use of prescription lenses
- Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
Desired Skills and Qualifications (but not necessary):
- Previous experience and knowledge of underground utility construction
- Experience in operating small equipment and hand tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Must be able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry materials of all shapes and sizes, weighing 40 to 90 pounds.
- Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
- Must be able to safely operate company vehicles or workaround heavy equipment and machinery.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl while performing work
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders
- Must be able to work in small/confined areas.
Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear.
