ABOUT THE POSITION

This position performs various assignments in service maintenance, installation, new machine start-ups & repairs on heavy equipment usually at customers' locations. The ideal candidate must be familiar with specifications for testing, troubleshooting, reads/interprets blueprints and diagrams, and operation of Astec equipment or equivalent. Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. This position may also train customers' employees in proper operation and maintenance of equipment. They may frequently interact with engineers to resolve problems in the field and/or to provide recommendations for improvements of equipment design or operation.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Provide service and customer support during visits and dispatches.
  • Managing all on-site installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solution.
  • Produce timely and detailed service reports.
  • Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations/briefings.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

  • Travels in service truck or company provided vehicle to customer site to maintain and/or repair all Astec equipment in the field as scheduled or directed.
  • Performs various emergency and scheduled repairs to Astec's equipment as requested by customer, Service Manager, or other Peterson designated personnel.
  • Delivers and prepares machine documentation or field reports to aid in identifying root cause of service issues and avoid future warranty claims.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and Service Manager to schedule field jobs.
  • Ability to explain and train the onsite customers' what repair, installation, or testing is being done to a scheduled machine.
  • Follow up with customers, vendors, and other personnel as needed to resolve service issues to completion.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting maintenance manuals, schematics, & blueprints for electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine issues.
  • Provide occasional technical support over the phone.
  • Team oriented with a strong work ethic able to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Represents Astec's in a positive, consistent, and professional manner at all times with a variety of internal/external customers, vendors, & suppliers.
  • Proficient in promoting safe and healthy work environment.
  • Adheres to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
  • Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with training guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness in designated workspace by practicing 6S principles to reduce safety risks.
  • Attend a weekly department safety meeting.

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); some previous work-related experience is a plus; or a combination of education and experience equivalent as deemed sufficient by management.
  • Minimum 3+ years, heavy equipment mechanic, assembler of heavy equipment or related experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years with diesel mechanics, electrical and hydraulics repair experience preferred.
  • Proven mechanical skills in the assembly and alignment of component sheaves, installation of bearings, and the hook up of air systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge on the installation of hydraulic pumps, motors, tanks, gear boxes and plumbing as well as welding and cutting experience.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as basic math skills, fractions, micrometers, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations, and able to convert decimals into inches.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships by working, acting, and communicating with various personalities getting along with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management working both individually and as part of a team.
  • Manual dexterity to perform efficiently, accurately, and productively to keep up with service schedule requirements and workload.
  • Written communication, technical reports, and logbooks must be at a high level of proficiency. Ability to stay productive with little supervision.
  • Professional verbal communication when expressing ideas, criticisms, and concerns in a way that promotes teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Capacity to learn quickly, detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, and positive.
  • Flexible and adaptable in coping with pressures, deadlines, and rapidly changing situations.
  • Ability to analyze situation for safety factors and perform repair or maintenance work or operate service truck or company vehicle in a safe manner at all times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
