LOCATION: This position will be located in Chattanooga, TN.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Engineering Director, Concrete will be a pivotal strategic and technical leader responsible for overseeing all global engineering operations supporting the concrete division of Astec. Aligning design efforts with manufacturing capabilities across various international factories, and managing a dispersed engineering team, including directing work to Astec CoE engineering office in India. This role requires a visionary leader to drive innovation in bespoke plant designs, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest design quality and safety standards, in close collaboration with Product Management.
Key Deliverables
· Oversee front-end and back-end development teams and their projects.
· Ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
· Prepare and manage the engineering department budget.
· Develop strategies for future development projects based on the company’s objectives and goals.
· Collaborate with product management to manage the product road map to budget and schedule.
· Make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have a far-reaching impact on extensive engineering and related activities of the company.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
· Global Engineering Strategy: Develop and implement an overarching engineering strategy that aligns with the company's "design anywhere, manufacture everywhere" vision and overall business objectives.
· Team Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse and high-performing engineering team across multiple locations, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
· Project Oversight & Execution: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of bespoke engineering projects, ensuring they meet customer specifications, budget, and timeline constraints.
· International Office Coordination: Direct and optimize the workflow with the India CoE office, ensuring seamless integration of overflow engineering tasks and effective collaboration across global teams.
· Design & Manufacturing Integration: Collaborate closely with manufacturing and supply chain stakeholders to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability (DFM) across different factories, improving productivity and reducing costs.
· Quality Assurance & Compliance: Establish and enforce engineering standards, best practices, and design quality control measures, ensuring all designs comply with relevant international industry standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.
· Technical Guidance & Innovation: Act as a technical expert, guiding teams on complex design challenges. Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance engineering processes and product performance.
· Budget & Resource Management: Plan, develop, and manage the engineering department's budget and resource allocation, including capital expenditures, to meet project priorities.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required. Masters Degree is preferred.
· 10+ years of related experience required with demonstrated results.
· 4+ years of supervisory experience of a significant department in an organization.
· A proven ability to manage and lead technical personnel is mandatory.
· Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
· Willingness to utilize lean knowledge tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
· Must demonstrate proficiency in several of the following areas including structural design, complex bespoke plant designs, gated NPD processes, 3D drawing packages and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel & Outlook).
Supervisor and Leadership Expectations
Directly supervises department managers within the department. Provide mentoring for team members and developing a high performance team.
