Counselors are responsible for managing their assigned campers, their campers’ daily schedule of activities, and facilitation of their campers’ activities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. - Ensures that compliance with regulations governed by the following is met: GSUSA Policies, Standards and Guidelines, GSSJC Policies and Operational Procedures, governmental and affiliated organization regulations, and standards.
- Knows the girls in the group and ensures their participation in activities and assists in eliminating their anxieties.
- Helps the girls in the group learn to respect the rights of others and to understand differences and similarities of other campers.
- Ensures that all campers have a good day camp experience as evidenced by positive camper and parent evaluations.
- Attends all camper gathering times, actively participating in activities.
- Guides activities and experiences in the group through use of group government, girl planning, and the Girl Scout program.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service, unit meetings, other meetings and camp activities as requested. Maintain communication with campers and staff.
- Serve as role model and guide campers maintaining a positive, high level of energy and instructs campers in the appropriate behavior, language, and attitude.
- Ensures that prescribed safety procedures are performed.
- Assures the health and safety of campers; monitoring personal and health problems and works with the Health Team and Camp Director to resolve issues.
- Supervises area housekeeping, sanitation, care of and requisitioning of supplies and equipment.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in council-led training regarding child safety, discrimination and harassment training, safety training and others training as may be assigned. If a training requires a test after completion, a passing grade is required.
- Embraces and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as an integral part of every activity and plan of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council.
- Understand and report any incidents regarding safety concerns, child well-being concerns, or concerns of behavior or conditions inconsistent with GSSJC’s standards of conduct.
- Creates a culture of Customer Service Excellence by treating each interaction as an opportunity to provide courteous, timely and quality service, and by exhibiting professional behavior becoming of the Girl Scout brand, Promise and Law.
- Maintains Girl Scout uniform and GSUSA membership.
- Works collaboratively on council initiatives.
- Supports a culture of philanthropy and considers a personal gift to GSSJC and United Way.
- Participates in conferences and staff meetings.
- For safety purposes, refrains from wearing jewelry during camp activities.
- Agrees to wear required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) provided by Girls Scouts of San Jacinto during designated camp activities.
