    Role Summary

    The Robotics Program Coordinator provides clinical leadership, coordination, and operational oversight for Howard University Hospital’s surgical robotics program. This role serves as the primary clinical subject-matter expert (SME) for robotic procedures, supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical operations across multiple service lines. The Coordinator provides Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) support, ensures robotic system readiness, supports staff competency, and partners with perioperative leadership to advance program performance and standardization.

    This is an exempt, non-union position within Perioperative Services.

    What You’ll Do

    Robotics Program Operations

    • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the surgical robotics program, including room readiness, workflow sequencing, and case coordination.
    • Ensure robotic systems, equipment, and instrumentation are available, functional, and properly maintained.
    • Coordinate system updates, instrumentation changes, new technology rollouts, and vendor support activities.
    • Track and monitor utilization, case volumes, quality indicators, and program performance metrics.
    • Partner with perioperative leadership on workflow standardization and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Clinical & First Assist Support

    • Provide CSFA-level first assist support for robotic procedures across surgical service lines.
    • Support docking, positioning, instrument exchange, and intraoperative troubleshooting.
    • Serve as the primary expert resource for robotic techniques, equipment functionality, and safety protocols.

    Training & Competency Development

    • Support onboarding and ongoing competency validation for surgical staff involved in robotic cases.
    • Provide hands-on training, case-based coaching, and workflow education.
    • Collaborate with perioperative educators to maintain competency documentation and regulatory compliance.

    Quality, Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure adherence to sterile technique, documentation standards, and perioperative policies.
    • Participate in quality reviews, safety huddles, and issue escalation related to robotic procedures.
    • Maintain program documentation in alignment with accreditation and regulatory requirements.

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Coordinate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing leadership, SPD, and vendors to support efficient case flow.
    • Participate in robotics program meetings and service line discussions.
    • Communicate equipment status, scheduling impacts, and workflow updates in a timely manner.

    Required Qualifications

    • Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) – required.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in surgical services with robotic surgery exposure.
    • Demonstrated proficiency with robotic surgical platforms (e.g., da Vinci).
    • Strong knowledge of OR workflows, sterile processing, instrumentation, and patient safety standards.
    • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced perioperative environment.

    Pay + Schedule

    • FLSA Status: Exempt
    • Schedule: Full-time, primarily day shift (based on surgical schedule and program needs)
    • Pay Range: To be determined based on experience and internal equity
