The Editor is a professional who develops, edits, formats, and finalizes high-quality technical documents in accordance with defined templates, standards, and client requirements. The Editor possesses the skills to perform quality assurance (QA) review of documents for clarity, conciseness, grammar, organization, and consistency. The individual possesses writing skills to clearly translate complex information into concise, client-facing documents. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound editorial judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality and meeting organizational deadlines. The role requires a professional committed to teamwork and success by embracing and living our core values of Persistence, Integrity, Trust, Accountability, and Prudence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Edit a variety of documents, which may include, but are not limited to, technical reports, proposals, guidelines, newsletters, articles, diagrams, and procurement/specifications documents
- Provide light content writing and revision support for proposals and deliverables, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with organizational standards.
- Complete editing assignments according to defined standards and best practices regarding content organization and flow, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, as well as grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Provide quality assurance review to identify errors, inconsistencies, and compliance with established standards
- Provide quality control by applying approved templates, formatting, and style standards
- Meet deadlines by establishing priorities and target timelines for information gathering, editing, peer review, and approval
- Produce high-quality work efficiently to support business and project objectives
- Work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams and leadership
- Continually assess and refine work processes to improve productivity and quality
- Perform other duties as requested
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five years of relevant experience in editing technical documents, proposals, reports, and articles
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university, or five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or similar is preferred
- Background working within public safety and justice communications organizations and technologies is a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Certificates, licenses, and registrations required: None Required
Other skills required:
- Documented proficiency regarding English-language usage, including the ability to spell and define words correctly and to adhere to rules governing grammar and composition
- Ability to edit a wide variety of technical and non-technical material for professional audiences
- Proven ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and balance multiple efforts to meet deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment as well as individually
- A positive attitude with a passion for attention to detail
- Valid driver’s license
