FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller takes responsibility for multiple aspects of financial management including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

 

This position is classified as FLSA exempt, is not eligible for overtime and reports to the Chief Financial Officer. 

 

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

  • Manage all accounting operations including A/R, A/P, GL, Payroll and Revenue Recognition
  • Review/oversee the daily and monthly workflow of the accounting department and the work of the accounting staff
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare/manage the preparation of financial reports and report variances
  • Prepare/manage and publish timely monthly financial statements
  • Manage and comply with government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Prepare/manage regulatory reporting
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Coordinate with the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis on month end close reporting, annual budgeting and quarterly forecasts compilation
  • Lead the accounting and finance work with external financial partners including audit & tax firm, banks and credit card companies
  • Provide oversight and management of short-term cash and cash equivalents
  • Laisse with Director of Business Intelligence to track and report donor revenue
  • Monitor compliance with GAAP financial reporting guidelines and stay informed of the most up-to-date pronouncements and regulatory changes that would impact the Company’s financial reporting processes
  • Develop and document business and accounting processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls related to finance
  • Manage the Sr. Accountant and Accounting Specialist (Accounts Payable)

  • Proven work experience as a Financial Controller 
  • A minimum of 8 years of overall combined accounting experience with at least 3 years of experience in the supervision of accounting personnel 
  • CPA License
  • Excellent business acumen and analytical skills  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures in a non-profit environment
  • Experience leading an accounting team in a high growth environment 
  • Experience with creating financial statements 
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process 
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows, MS Office suite and accounting software 
  • Extensive knowledge in the use of spreadsheets 
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment strongly preferred

 

BONUS IF YOU BRING:

  • Experience with Financial Edge (General Ledger System) and Tessitura (Donor CRM System)
  • MBA Degree
  • Passion for public media   

 

 

SALARY RANGE 

$130,000 - $160,000, depending on experience

LOCATION:

We expect that this position will work out of our Dallas office at least 60% of the time. (Equivalent to 24 hours per week) 

Time in office requirements are subject to change based on the needs of KERA and/or the position.
