Assistant Controller
Role Summary
The Assistant Controller serves as an operational finance leader responsible for supporting the Controller in overseeing the hospital’s accounting operations and financial reporting functions. This role leads the monthly and year-end close processes, supervises general accounting operations, coordinates audit preparation, and ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP and established internal control standards.
The Assistant Controller plays a critical leadership role within the Finance Division and may act on behalf of the Controller as designated.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Review journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare and consolidate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Oversee general ledger integrity and reconciliation processes
- Supervise accounting staff responsible for accounts payable and general ledger functions
- Monitor workflow efficiency and implement process improvements
- Maintain strong internal controls and compliance with healthcare financial standards
- Coordinate preparation for external audits and respond to auditor requests
- Assist with budget preparation, variance analysis, and forecasting activities
- Support ERP system optimization (Lawson preferred) and reporting enhancements
- Act on behalf of the Controller in designated circumstances
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance requiredExperience
Minimum 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience
Healthcare or hospital accounting experience required
Minimum 2–3 years of supervisory or team leadership experienceCertification
CPA designation or CPA-track strongly preferredKnowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and healthcare accounting practices
- Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end close processes
- Experience coordinating external audits
- Knowledge of internal control principles and financial reporting standards
- Strong financial statement review and analytical skills
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Lawson preferred) and advanced Microsoft Excel
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a healthcare environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities

Pay + Schedule
Pay Range: $133,246 – $213,193 annually (commensurate with experience)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, Day Shift
FLSA Status: Exempt
