The Learning & Business Partner Specialist plays a key role in strengthening leadership, communication, and people practices across Howard University Hospital (HUH). This role supports both the Learning function and the HR Business Partner (HRBP) team by contributing to foundational training, project management, process implementation, and targeted support for departments.
The Specialist facilitates soft skills content, creates practical tools and resources, supports performance management communications and rollouts, assists with offboarding processes, and partners with HRBPs on departmental needs. This is an emerging business parter/organizational effectiveness position designed for someone ready to grow, contribute ideas, support implementation, and help build consistency across a complex hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities

Facilitate soft-skills and foundational learning sessions for staff and leaders.

Develop and refine training materials, job aids, templates, and tools that support leadership and team development.

Provide light HealthStream/LMS support, including assigning modules, updating content, and monitoring completion trends as needed.

Support HRBPs in departmental engagement, including attending meetings, listening sessions, and touchpoints to gather themes and insights.

Assist in preparing communication drafts, summaries, and guidance for leaders related to expectations, processes, and organizational practices.

Contribute to performance management cycles by supporting communication plans, preparing materials, coordinating timelines, and helping leaders understand requirements.

Support offboarding processes, including capturing insights during exit interviews and coordinating logistics for terminations in partnership with HRBPs.

Help build and test HR tools, checklists, and process guides that improve clarity and consistency across departments.

Coordinate project work for HR initiatives—tracking actions, managing timelines, gathering stakeholder feedback, and preparing progress summaries.

Support cohort-based learning or leadership experiences by managing communications, engagement, and participant tracking.

Maintain an organized content library for learning materials, HR tools, and communication resources.

Analyze basic trends from data sources (training participation, department themes, exit interview trends) and prepare clear insight summaries.

Work collaboratively with the Senior Manager and HRBPs to ensure integrated, aligned support across HR—and avoid siloed work.
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

3-5 years of experience in HR, learning support, project coordination, organizational development, or related work.

Strong facilitation skills and comfort delivering soft skills or foundational leadership content.

Ability to partner with leaders and support people- and culture-related initiatives with professionalism.

Strong organization, communication, writing, and follow through skills.

Ability to learn and administer LMS platforms such as HealthStream.

Collaborative, team-focused working style; able to contribute to shared processes and avoid siloed work.

Sound judgment, confidentiality, and ability to navigate sensitive situations.
