The Director, Construction is responsible for leading and managing the telecom construction operations, ensuring all projects are executed efficiently, safely, and within budget. This role partners with the Market Managers, executive leadership, and project management teams to establish strategic initiatives, optimize operational processes, and drive organizational growth. The Director, Construction plays a key role in ensuring financial performance, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and high-quality service delivery.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead telecom construction operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective project execution.
- Drive the division to achieve business objectives related to sales, profitability, and operational efficiency.
- Establish and monitor KPIs to measure effectiveness, ensuring compliance with internal and external operational standards.
- Develop, implement, and oversee policies and processes that optimize productivity and performance.
- Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and mitigate risks.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, forecasts, and budgets to support decision-making.
- Ensure all construction activities comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing construction management team.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and training programs to enhance team capabilities.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for problem resolution within the construction division.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and stakeholders to drive project success.
- Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiations, and resource allocations.
- Stay updated on emerging industry trends, technology advancements, and regulatory changes.
- Conduct site visits to assess project progress, safety compliance, and quality assurance.
- Manage crisis situations, including construction delays, permitting challenges, and unforeseen technical issues.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, stakeholder meetings, and strategic planning sessions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven track record of managing large-scale telecom infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of wireless and fiber optic network deployments, permitting, and construction methodologies.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with the ability to drive performance.
- Proficiency in construction management software, project tracking tools, and financial analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of OSHA, FCC, and other telecom construction regulatory standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel as needed to oversee project sites and meet with stakeholders.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in telecom construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in both office and field environments.
- Frequent travel to job sites, requiring prolonged standing and walking.
- Exposure to outdoor elements, including varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, as needed.
Minimum Required Licenses/Certificates/Registrations:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- PMP or other project management certification is a plus.
