Job Description
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily activities within a fast-paced machine shop supporting an Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) contract manufacturing environment. This role ensures efficient machining operations, high-quality output, on-time delivery, and adherence to safety and industry standards. The Operations Supervisor coordinates personnel, equipment, and workflow to meet production goals while supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
· Supervise daily operations of the machine shop including CNC machining, manual machining, fabrication, and secondary operations.
· Coordinate production schedules and priorities to ensure on-time completion of machined components supporting internal assembly and external customer requirements.
· Monitor shop performance metrics such as machine utilization, throughput, scrap, and labor efficiency, and take corrective action as needed.
· Assign work, balance workloads, and adjust staffing or machine resources to meet changing production demands.
· Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, materials, and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues and support production needs.
· Provide leadership, training, and coaching to machinists, operators, and shop personnel to ensure safe and effective operations.
· Maintain strict adherence to company policies related to ITAR, export control, documentation, and traceability requirements.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, ISO 9001 requirements, safety standards, and applicable industry regulations.
· Promote Lean Manufacturing practices, 5S, and continuous improvement within the machine shop.
· Identify production bottlenecks and implement improvements to increase efficiency, reduce scrap, and improve cycle times.
· Support new product introduction (NPI), tooling development, and process improvements for machined components.
· Maintain proper documentation, work instructions, and shop floor organization to support quality and traceability.
Qualifications and Experience
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
· 3–5 years of experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
· Strong understanding of CNC machining, machining processes, tooling, and shop floor workflow.
· Ability to manage changing priorities in a dynamic production environment.
· Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
· Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement practices preferred.
· Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
· Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
