Marketing Communications Specialist II
Location: Vienna, Virginia 22180
Position Overview
The Marketing Communications Specialist II creates and produces marketing concepts and copy for product marketing, advertising, direct response, and marketing communication campaigns. This role contributes to marketing plans, strategies, and campaigns while championing initiatives throughout the marketing department and with external partners. The position performs complex creative copy development and sensitive messaging for various promotional mediums using in-depth marketing knowledge and brand guidelines with minimal supervision. This role serves as a Point of Contact for highly visible and sensitive/crisis communication messaging and provides assistance and training to junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Create conceptual approaches and copy solutions to promote our client's products and services to increase member engagement, branding recognition, and market penetration goals
- Collaborate with business clients and marketing staff to translate marketing communications into clear, cohesive, concise, and effective communications pieces for campaigns and various media
- Provide consultative editorial and development services to clients to ensure appropriate copy solutions, content accuracy, and grammar consistency in style and image
- Provide creative solutions for marketing campaigns, product launches, and other initiatives
- Acquire and maintain thorough understanding of product owners' products, goals, and business objectives
- Keep current with industry standards, competitors' practices, regulatory and copyright considerations, and remain up to date on market trends and communications best practices
- Analyze quality of work through review of marketing summaries and metrics to determine if copy materials and methodologies were effective and produced desired results
- Make presentations to stakeholders and management on marketing campaign initiatives, outlining objectives, action plans, and results
- Provide input and recommendations for marketing plan modifications due to market environment changes or requirements
- Participate, facilitate, and implement marketing initiatives across all channels by conceptualizing and translating information into understandable copy and content
- Contribute to the development of web content marketing strategy to include links within websites, emails, and other digital channels
- Monitor, submit updates, and audit product information on sites to ensure accuracy, compliance with corporate marketing plans, regulatory requirements, and our client's standards
- Ensure communications content aligns with latest SEM (Search Engine Marketing) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) capabilities to support market penetration and marketing strategic initiatives
- Implement industry best practices for readability, compliance with ADA standards, and success metrics
- Tailor all communications by channel and according to strategy
- Champion our client's brand; create, contribute, implement, and update brand style guides, messaging documents, and preparedness communications
- Ensure communications and brand tone and voice are appropriate for all member-facing communications
- Educate internal stakeholders and outside vendors on brand standards
- Review projects and vendor performance to ensure schedules and deadlines are met, quality is high, and brand standards are maintained
- Initiate creation of messaging documents and brand guides and communicate to management; work to align communication throughout the organization
- Provide support in the management of marketing editorial calendars
- Manage vendor relationships, including budget analysis and planning
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
- Advanced knowledge of marketing, advertising, direct response, and corporate communications principles
- Experience in copywriting, communications, editing, and proofreading
- Advanced knowledge of marketing, advertising, direct response, and corporate communications principles and communications production processes
- Experience creating conceptual approaches and copy solutions for marketing communications in media to include SEM/SEO methodologies, with minimal editorial supervision
- Advanced research, analytical, and concept organization skills
- Ability to articulate findings in oral and written presentations of creative work to various audiences
- Experience managing and leading multiple projects, resolving conflicting requests, meeting changing requirements and priorities, and accomplishing marketing goals
- Advanced organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team to achieve project goals
- Advanced relationship management skills to gain confidence and cooperation of various levels of staff, management, vendors, and clients and obtain consensus
- Experience with word processing and editorial applications software

- Experience working in a demanding creative environment similar to an advertising agency
