ABOUT THE POSITION

The Production Engineering Manager leads a technical team that supports day-to-day production of engineered products. The role owns value engineering, supply chain support, and continuous improvement across the product portfolio, and partners with New Product Development to launch new products and services. As a hands-on leader, this position balances people leadership with direct technical problem-solving to meet engineering and manufacturing objectives.

This role drives Lean Manufacturing by reducing waste, improving flow, and partnering cross-functionally on standard work, root cause analysis, and data-driven continuous improvement.

 

Deliverables & Responsibilities

·         Manage project budgets.

·         Develop costeffective, efficient manufacturing methods.

·         Identify and implement product costreduction opportunities.

·         Support manufacturing in reducing material and labor costs.

·         Research product enhancements that improve customer experience and total cost of ownership.

·         Provide clear instructions to engineering teams.

·         Ensure final machine designs are costeffective and meet requirements.

·         Support Sales with product applications and customer engagements.

·         Lead and develop a team of engineers and designers.

·         Drive value engineering and continuous product improvement.

·         Maintain internal design standards and ensure BOM and drawing accuracy.

·         Ensure final designs are functional, costeffective, and meet customer needs.

·         Assign and monitor workloads to meet project schedules and capacity targets.

·         Develop departmental best practices and handoff processes for Purchasing and Operations.

·         Foster strong communication across internal and external teams.

·         Mentor engineering staff and support their development.

·         Research new materials, processes, and technologies to improve the product line.

·         Prepare and manage budgets and schedules for new product development.

·         Review manufacturing processes for feasibility and cost efficiency.

·         Hold the Engineering Team accountable for Astec core values and performance goals.

·         Collaborate with Operations to ensure part compatibility and identify capability needs.

·         Provide project status updates to the Director of Engineering.

 

 To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent and/or combination of training and experience.

·         5 – 8  years of progressive leadership role in an Engineering related field.

·         Proficient in the use of SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD to generate 3D solid model designs from concept to fabrication.

·         Familiarity with industry policies and procedures to ensure safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.

·         Must possess in-depth understanding of design criteria.

·         Thorough working knowledge of plant engineering, industrial engineering, and tooling.

·         Vibratory screening technology and control systems knowledge a plus.

 

Supervisor and Leadership Expectations

·         This position oversees a team of 5 engineers and drafters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock.  The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures.  The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
