ABOUT THE POSITION

Based within Astec, the assigned individual will work with all Astec departments in order to resolve identified quality assurance discrepancies. Responsible for the final inspection of plant electrical and mechanical components before shipment.

Key Deliverables

· Inspect finished products to ensure they are in accordance with established tolerance levels for quality and performance.

· Review design or drawings for discrepancies.

· Keep accurate records of inspections performed on equipment.

· Support employee and customers with any discrepancies that they are faced with.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

· Perform functional checkout on each individual console, power panel, motor control center, and completed control house.

· Serve as a technical advisor for each manufacturing bay and field service personnel.

· Notify Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering of any design or drawing discrepancies.

· Notify Controls Engineering of any computer system or programming discrepancies.

· Maintain and correct as built electrical prints for all current jobs and retain prints from completed jobs for a period of 2 years.

· Review work orders and subsequent supplements to ensure each plant component is manufactured as specified.

· Perform both physical and functional inspections on test pad erected plants for mechanical, electrical, and operational completeness.

· Notify the Service Manager of any particular issues that may be expected and require rectifying in the field.

· Determines whether a shipment is ready for delivery and determine that any remediations, and corrections are addressed.

· May be required to consult or provide guidance/direction on equipment corrections and changes

· Maintain record of inspected electrical enclosures and corresponding UL sticker number.

· Assist Electrical and new field service in new employee training.

· Develop configuration data for new vendor products and distribute information to the Service Department.

· Work with Service Department and Electrical/Controls group to set up tests to gather future process information.

· Travel to customer job sites and perform evaluation of plant erection, commissioning, and overall customer satisfaction.

· Perform any and all other tasks related to the summary description.

· Follow company policies and procedures at all times.

· Follow proper safety rules and procedures at all times.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

· Minimum high school diploma and prefer minimum 2 years in post high school education such as trade or vocational school.

· Minimum 8 years’ experience in construction equipment, manufacturing, or related fields required. Lead role may require specialized knowledge in electrical or other skillsets

· Prefer 5+ years’ experience in asphalt industry.

· Electrical proficiency to include AC/DC theory, power distribution, power transmission, motors, digital electronics, and controls.

· Knowledge of erection equipment to include cranes, riggings, and communication skills related to erection required.

· Knowledge of and skills to read mechanical, electrical, and electronics blueprints and designs required.

· Thorough understanding of hydraulic principles to include pumps, valves (control), cylinders, hydraulic motors, and hydraulic circuits and symbols.

· Thorough understanding of pneumatics to include air compressors, air preparation, air distribution, directional control valves, cylinders, and pneumatic circuits and symbols.

· Thorough understanding of combustion principles to include fundamentals, fluid flow/flow measurement, air/fuel ratio, heat transfer, emissions/flue gas analysis, air/fuel piping, and controls.

· Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, techniques, and testing related to the asphalt industry.

· Willingness and ability to travel extensively, nationally, and internationally.

· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.

· Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues in the most positive fashion for all parties concerned.

· Basic arithmetic skills required.

· Strong computer/network literacy to include installation, use, and troubleshooting required.

· Strong analytical skills required.

· Steel fabrication ability to include design, cutting, welding, and installation required.

· Experience in an electrical/electronic environment where extensive analysis, troubleshooting, and repair are required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
