Membership & Engagement Manager
Location: Remote, with occasional in-person meetings as needed
Organization: Association of Reform Jewish Educators (ARJE)
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Employment Type: 20 hours a week (Occasional evening and weekend availability for annual conference or events possible)
Compensation: $40,000 annually (Not Benefits Eligible)
THE ROLE
Bring your relationship-building skills and passion for supporting Jewish educators to help shape the next chapter of the Association of Reform Jewish Educators (ARJE). The Membership & Engagement Manager will strengthen the ARJE member experience by building systems for recruitment, onboarding, engagement, volunteer involvement, and retention. This role serves as a key relationship steward for members, especially those new to the field, transitioning between roles, or seeking deeper connection to the ARJE community.
Working closely with the CEO, staff, and volunteer leaders, the Membership & Engagement Manager will create meaningful pathways for involvement and belonging. This position combines strategic coordination with high-touch relationship management, ensuring members experience meaningful connection and value throughout their ARJE journey. Success in this role will include strengthening member recruitment, increasing volunteer participation, improving retention, and deepening members’ sense of belonging within the ARJE community.
The ideal candidate is highly relational, organized, proactive, and energized by helping Jewish educational leaders thrive within a joyful professional network.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Member Recruitment & Outreach

Design and implement a relationship-centered membership recruitment strategy in partnership with the ARJE CEO, staff, and volunteer leaders.

Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and new members, ensuring a welcoming and supportive experience from the first interaction.

Develop and communicate compelling membership value propositions tailored to different member audiences and employer partners.

Create systems and tools that empower ARJE leaders and volunteers to recruit peers and colleagues effectively.

Partner with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to strengthen recruitment materials, messaging, and outreach efforts.

Support personalized onboarding and outreach efforts that help new members access ARJE resources, opportunities, and networks.
Member Engagement, ONBOARDING & RETENTION

Partner with the Program & Operations Associate to monitor member engagement, identify participation trends, and support retention efforts.

Collaborate with staff and volunteer leaders to ensure members receive timely communications, support, and connection opportunities.

Personally connect members to programs, volunteer opportunities, and peer relationships aligned with their interests, roles, and professional goals.

Proactively identify members who may feel disengaged or disconnected and provide personalized outreach and support.

Help strengthen systems that foster belonging, engagement, and long-term member investment in ARJE.

Support efforts to gather member feedback and insights to improve the member experience and inform organizational priorities.
Volunteer Engagement

Coordinate with volunteer leaders to identify organizational needs and match members with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

Create and manage systems for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, tracking, and engagement.

Develop volunteer pathways that accommodate varying levels of interest, availability, and leadership experience.

Partner with the CEO and volunteer leaders to evaluate volunteer experiences and support leadership development and member growth.

Help cultivate a volunteer culture rooted in appreciation, relationship-building, and shared ownership of ARJE’s mission.

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of experience in membership engagement, alumni engagement, volunteer management, coaching, community-building, network development, or related fields.

Experience working in nonprofit organizations, membership associations, and/or Jewish communal or educational settings.

Strong organizational and project management skills with excellent follow-through.

Confidence working independently and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

Comfort using Microsoft office and google suite, digital communication tools, databases, and social media platforms to support engagement and relationship-building.

Experience using CRM or membership management systems preferred.
