    Role Summary

As Director, Talent Management at Howard University Hospital, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for enterprise-wide talent management functions, with primary oversight of compensation, talent acquisition, and leave management. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, you will ensure that talent strategies align with hospital and university objectives, meet regulatory requirements, remain competitive in the market, and support a strong employee value proposition across our clinical, academic, and operational missions.

If you are an experienced HR leader ready to shape talent strategy at one of the nation’s most storied academic medical centers, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact on the people who power our mission.

    What You’ll Do

    • Lead the design, administration, and governance of compensation programs — including job architecture, market pricing, salary structures, incentive plans, and pay equity analyses — and ensure practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and align with university and hospital policies
    • Oversee end-to-end talent acquisition strategy, including workforce planning, recruitment operations, employer branding, selection practices, and onboarding for clinical and non-clinical roles
    • Partner with hospital leadership to address hard-to-fill and mission-critical roles through data-driven sourcing and retention strategies
    • Direct leave management programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation coordination, and other statutory and institutional leave programs
    • Collaborate with payroll, benefits, and third-party administrators to ensure accurate and timely leave processing and employee support
    • Develop and monitor key talent metrics and dashboards related to compensation competitiveness, time-to-fill, turnover, and leave utilization
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline talent management processes, enhance the employee experience, and reduce manual workarounds
    • Provide consultation and guidance to leaders on talent-related matters, change management, and organizational effectiveness, and prepare reports and recommendations for executive leadership and governance bodies

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required
    • Seven (7) or more years of progressive human resources leadership experience, with significant responsibility for compensation and talent acquisition
    • Demonstrated knowledge of compensation methodologies, employment and leave laws, and recruitment best practices
    • Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and influence senior leaders
    • Strong analytical, communication, and change management skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
    • Healthcare or academic medical center experience

    What We Offer

    • Work-life balance
    • Recognition and rewards for professional expertise
    • Competitive, comprehensive benefit plans including health, disability, vacation, sick leave, and 403(b) retirement plan
    • Tuition remission at Howard University for you and/or eligible dependent children — up to two (2) courses per semester
    • A mission-driven environment rooted in over 150 years of excellence, service, and advocacy for the communities we serve

    About Howard University Hospital

Howard University Hospital (HUH) is the nation’s only teaching hospital located on the campus of a historically Black university. With a legacy dating back to 1862 — when it operated as Freedmen’s Hospital, providing care and refuge to those who had been denied it elsewhere — HUH has grown into one of the most comprehensive healthcare facilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and is a designated DC Level 1 Trauma Center. Today, HUH continues its proud tradition of delivering exemplary, patient-centered, and culturally responsive care to the community, while providing exceptional learning and professional development opportunities for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
