ABOUT THE POSITION: Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools, and equipment and in maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems of industrial plants or other establishments and performs several safety-related functions by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates and/or other company employees.

 

Key Deliverables

· Inspect sites regularly to identify problems and necessary maintenance.

· Prepare weekly maintenance schedules and allocate all work.

· Employee, supervise, and train workers.

· Oversee all repairs and ensure that work is completed on time.

· Maintain all inventory and equipment, and ensure proper storage.

 

Key Activities & Responsibilities

· Reviews manufacturers' service manuals, own establishment's usage schedules and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventative maintenance.

· Establishes, adjusts, and schedules repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment to insure continuous production operations.

· Interprets specifications, blueprints, and schematics to workers, assigns duties and inspects completed work for conformance to these standards.

· Estimates costs of personnel, parts, and supplies to be used during scheduled maintenance.

· Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment as well as those performing building maintenance functions.

· Visually inspects and/or listens to mechanical devices in operation, analyzes and assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

· Replaces or assists in replacing faulty mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.

· Dismantles or assists in dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

· Coordinate’s activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.

· Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.

· Initiates purchase orders for parts, tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.

· Keeps supply of spare parts.

· Acquaints workers with company policies and procedures.

· Confers with management personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.

· Plan’s layout of wiring and installs wiring or oversees installation of wiring, conduit and electrical apparatus in buildings.

· Assists in installing or installs and connects power supply wiring and conduit to newly installed or existing machines and equipment.

· Assists in replacing or replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches and motors and positions sensing devices.

· Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components such as circuit boards when necessary.

· Oversees lockout/tagout program.

· Orders and tracks tool purchases for employees.

· Plans, implements, communicates, and enforces safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

· Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment (including forklift safety training) and other materials in Safety Administrator's absence.

· Inspects company facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures were indicated and follows up to insure measures have been implemented.

· Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

· Maintains MSDS information at all plant locations in Safety Administrator's absence.

· Communicates with environmental agencies and implements any required corrective or preventative measures and provides necessary documentation where required.

· Coordinates onsite vendor services including vending machine suppliers, canteen truck, safety shoe/boot and tool suppliers for the employee's purchasing convenience.

· Directs workers engaged in maintaining the building and its furnishings who are performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, janitorial services and other related maintenance activities.

· Troubleshoots quality parts problems as they relate to production equipment performance (e.g., CNC equipment)

· Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating and ventilating equipment, etc.

· Directs workers engaged in ground maintenance activities such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse, cleaning of snow/ice and debris from sidewalks and parking lots, etc.

· Schedules vehicles for routine maintenance or repairs.

· Maintains files and records as required.

· Travels to other Astec subsidiaries for maintenance purposes as required.

· Operates forklift when necessary.

· Develops, recommends to management, and manages department budget.

· Projects positive company image by interacting with fellow employees, customers and management in a cooperative, supportive and courteous manner; displays professional attitude; complies with company dress code.

· Communicates with individuals at all levels within the organization.

· Documents assigned tasks as required.

· Performs work according to production schedule and/or supervisor's directives.

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

· Knowledge of all aspects associated with the area of industrial maintenance including knowledge of electrical, electronic, plumbing, hydraulic and pneumatic applications normally gained through five (5) to seven (7) years of experience required.

· Minimum of two (2) years of manufacturing maintenance experience required.

· Must be able to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and other related drawings.

· Safety and environmental experience preferred.

· Ability to work satisfactorily as a team member and communicate with all levels within the company.

· Good communication skills (both verbal and written).

· Ability to operate a personal computer and be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite software applications a plus.

· Ability to handle sudden changes in project/priority and multiple tasks simultaneously in a positive fashion.

· Ability to set, adjust and change daily priorities.

· Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues in the most positive fashion for all parties concerned.

· Ability to identify problems or potential problems at a functional level and make or recommend decisions to resolve the same.

· Projects strong leadership skills.

· Good organization and time-management skills.

· Willingness to accept responsibility and take on new challenges.

· Ability to use calculator and other standard office equipment (fax, copier, scanner, etc.).

· Ability to influence others via communication to get desired results.

· Accurate data entry/typing and proofreading skills, ability to type 40+ WPM a plus.

· Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on a customary and regular basis.

· Must complete and maintain forklift operation certification and be able to safely operate a forklift if required.

 

Supervisor and Leadership Expectations

Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Maintenance Department. Also directly supervises five (5) to ten (10) non-supervisory maintenance employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems upon consultation with the Director of Manufacturing, the Manufacturing Manager and/or Director of Human Resources if necessary.
