Job Summary:
As the Engineer I, II, III, you will ultimately be responsible for engineering design and drafting of cost-effective, accurate, and high-quality OSP and/or ISP work prints while meeting or exceeding client deadlines. You will develop engineered designs for construction, placement, splicing, installation, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure. As the Engineer I, II, III, your customers are telecommunications clients, internal construction teams, and project stakeholders, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through quality engineering design, accurate project execution, and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Work in various customer-specific systems to produce cost-effective engineered designs for construction, placement, splicing, installation, and long-term maintenance
- Identify assigned fiber/copper pairs at strategic access points and design aerial and/or underground paths from point A to point B
- Identify necessary requirements to successfully attach fiber/copper cables to poles and place cables in underground environments
- Engineer in public rights-of-way and on private property while avoiding conflicts with existing facilities
- Initiate internal work order requests for other departments necessary to complete projects
- Update necessary tracking systems to ensure project and/or program status is maintained with complete accuracy, including third-party management systems
- Communicate all issues to management prior to reaching critical status
- Develop and maintain accurate and complete project files while monitoring for integrity and completeness
- Meet or exceed internal and external quality standards and on-time delivery expectations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline preferred
Experience
- Construction experience preferred
- Field experience preferred
- Knowledge and experience in telecommunications, outside plant engineering design or field inspection, and/or network construction
- Knowledge of fiber networking, routing, and network management
- Knowledge and understanding of various broadband network designs and architecture
- Beginner knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts and how fielding, planning, engineering, and construction components of a job align
- Beginner knowledge and ability to learn how to design work prints for multiple job types

- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline
- Construction and field experience
- Experience in telecommunications, outside plant engineering design, field inspection, and/or network construction
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, or client proprietary design systems
- Knowledge of fiber networking, routing, and network management
- Knowledge of broadband network designs and architecture
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting frequently required for extended periods, especially when working at a computer or desk
- Regular use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, including typing and using a mouse
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to talk and hear clearly for effective communication
- Typically works in a semi-quiet office environment, with occasional site visits
- Occasionally required to walk or stand for extended periods
Leveling:
An Engineer I, II, or III title differentiation lies in the experience and/or skill level of the individual.
Engineer I
- Education: STEM Bachelor's preferred
- Math & Accounting: Basic application to costing jobs
- OSP Telco Knowledge: Beginner knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, and how fielding, planning, engineering, and construction parts of a job align
- Engineering Design: Beginner knowledge and ability to learn how to design work prints for multiple job types
- Customer Service: Excellent; potential for client-facing role
- Decision Making: Requires mentorship and training to complete work prints and make independent design or equipment decisions
- Quality Performance: Requires training on basic drafting or engineering activities, often following a redline
- On-Time Delivery: Ability to meet most internal and client deadlines
- Training Capability: N/A
Engineer II
- Education: STEM Bachelor's preferred
- Math & Accounting: Moderate application to costing jobs
- OSP Telco Knowledge: Strong knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, and how fielding, planning, engineering, and construction parts of a job align
- Engineering Design: Ability to design work prints with various job types; can self-teach or quickly learn new job types with little supervision
- Customer Service: Excellent; potential for client-facing role
- Decision Making: Requires some guidance to complete work prints; can make independent design and equipment decisions within the scope of internal and external needs
- Quality Performance: Receives some QC revisions; makes no basic mistakes and no repetitive errors
- On-Time Delivery: Ability to meet most internal and client deadlines
- Training Capability: Ability to assist Engineer I's and II's when needed
Engineer III
- Education: STEM Bachelor's preferred
- Math & Accounting: Advanced application to costing jobs
- OSP Telco Knowledge: Deeply rooted understanding of engineering concepts, and how fielding, planning, engineering, and construction parts of a job align
- Engineering Design: Ability to design work prints with multiple job types and complex and/or large-scale engineering designs like FBB
- Customer Service: Excellent; potential for client-facing role
- Decision Making: Requires little to no guidance to complete work prints; can make independent design and equipment decisions within the scope of internal and external needs
- Quality Performance: Receives little to no QC revisions; makes no basic mistakes or repetitive errors. Every job goes through QC, but Engineer III receives a minimal check
- On-Time Delivery: Ability to meet and/or exceed all internal and client deadlines
- Training Capability: Ability to assist Engineer I's, II's, III's, and managers when needed
