Job Summary:
As the Hydro Vac Truck Operator, you will ultimately be responsible for safely and efficiently operating vacuum trucks and related excavation equipment, removing and transporting liquids, slurries, and debris, and supporting underground excavation projects. You will perform equipment inspections, maintenance, and excavation activities while ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. As the Hydro Vac Truck Operator, your customers are internal construction teams, project managers, and utility clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through safe equipment operation, quality workmanship, and dependable field support.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Operate vacuum equipment, track hoes, backhoes, trucks, and other excavation equipment
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance of trucks, machines, equipment, and tools used for assigned jobs
- Operate vacuum trucks to remove and transport liquids, slurries, and debris from excavation sites
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure trucks and equipment are in safe operating condition
- Maintain accurate logs of services performed, including volumes and types of materials collected
- Perform routine maintenance on vacuum trucks and related equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Perform Hydro Vac truck and trailer maintenance
- Properly dispose of vacuum excavation materials in accordance with applicable requirements
- Actively participate in safety meetings
- Monitor and verify quality control and uniformity of work
- Perform physical labor and digging as required to support excavation activities
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement
- Valid DOT Medical Card
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Good driving record
Experience
- 2–3 years of previous experience operating vacuum trucks
- Experience operating excavation equipment preferred
- Experience performing vacuum truck and related equipment maintenance preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of safety regulations related to waste management and excavation
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate vacuum trucks and excavation equipment
- Ability to perform routine equipment inspections and identify maintenance needs
- Ability to maintain accurate service and operational records
- Ability to perform physical labor and digging as required
- Ability to work effectively as part of a construction team
- Ability to work safely in varying weather and field conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating track hoes, backhoes, and other excavation equipment
- Previous utility construction or underground excavation experience
- Experience with vacuum excavation operations and material disposal requirements
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
- Ability to perform physical labor and digging activities
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to safely perform duties at active excavation and construction sites
