Job Summary:
As the Construction Manager, you will ultimately be responsible for managing and overseeing construction crews, ensuring work is performed safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget. You will coordinate with Project Managers, customers, administrative teams, and field crews to support project planning, scheduling, materials, production, and closeout activities. As the Construction Manager, your customers are internal project teams, construction crews, and external customers, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through safe operations, quality construction, effective team management, and cost control.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Manage and coordinate the activities of assigned construction crews
- Continuously evaluate direct reports' performance and provide coaching and training to improve their skills and support team advancement
- Enforce company policies and procedures
- Administer appropriate corrective and disciplinary actions and prepare supporting documentation for performance and behavioral issues
- Train Foremen
- Work with the Project Manager to coordinate project activities, scheduling, and material ordering
- Work with customers on site coordination and project planning
- Maintain authority to order materials for assigned jobs
- Work with the Administrative team on crew timesheets and required documents for assigned jobs and job setups
- Review and approve invoices
- Ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule
- Track project milestones and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle
- Approve and complete daily production reports
- Mark up maps and track work hours
- Complete As-Builts and project closeout packages
- Conduct interviews and manage hiring for field crews
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CPR/First Aid certification
- OSHA 30 certification
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Experience
- Proven ability to manage, train, and oversee construction crews while ensuring safe, accurate, and timely work
- Proficient knowledge of aerial and underground construction
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret building plans, blueprints, specifications, and construction documents
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and emphasis on quality
- Strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills
- Professional demeanor and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse personalities in a team environment
- Intermediate to advanced computer and software skills, including Excel, Word, scheduling software, HCSS Heavy Bid, and similar applications
- Ability to perform statistical analysis, percentages, profit calculations, ratios, and budget forecasts
- Ability to calculate figures, discounts, percentages, ratios, proportions, fractions, and estimates
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret RFPs, trade journals, contracts, financial reports, job documentation, prints, manuals, safety rules, and training manuals
- Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and complaints from customers, employees, regulatory agencies, and the business community
- Ability to present information effectively to top management, employees, customers, and public groups
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with abstract and concrete variables
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional construction management experience or related field experience
- Additional industry-specific certifications or training
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors, including in inclement weather
- Maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and moving or stationary persons, vehicles, and objects to ensure safe coordination
- Work around heavy equipment and machinery
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Perform extended bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, and working in awkward positions
- Stand, walk, sit, or perform other physically demanding activities for extended periods
- Wear safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and other applicable safety equipment as required
