    Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Competent Para-Professional Authority (CPPA) who will embrace our reach and historic tradition of excellence.     The Competent Para-Professional Authority: 
    • ​​​​Interview WIC participants to obtain socioeconomic, health, and dietary information. 
    • Educates participants regarding their rights and responsibilities, the food delivery system, WIC foods, and certification schedule. 
    • Performs and records height and weight measurements. 
    • Performs and records biochemical measurements, such as hemoglobin or lead tests. 
    • Screens the health and nutritional status of participants and identifies problems that place them at nutritional risk. 
    • Provides basic nutrition education to non-high risk participants either individually or in a group setting with an established curriculum and under the supervision of the CPA or Nutrition Coordinator. 
    • Promotes the advantages of breastfeeding to all prenatal participants unless contraindicated for health reasons,
    • Provide substance abuse and smoking cessation information. 
    • Provides referrals as appropriate and identified during the screening process
    • Completes food prescription for contract formulas in powder or concentrate. 
    • Completes default food prescription for non-high risk women and children per WIC State Agency policy. 
    • Refers high-risk participants to CPA in accordance with WIC State Agency policy. 
    • Documents all contacts made with WIC participants in the DC WIC electronic record system. 
    • Issues food benefits in accordance with WIC State Agency policy. 
    • Performs additional tasks assigned by supervisor, as needed. 
    Qualified candidates will possess: 
    • Dietetic technician with a general bachelor's degree or a bachelor's degree in nutrition preferred, may be substituted with 5 years of WIC clinic or maternal child health clinical experience. 
    • Must complete State agency CPPA required training with a passing grade on an administered exam upon completion of training. 
    • Strong computer skills.
    • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent customer service and time management skills. Ability to work well in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment. 

    ​​​Must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift (12-25lbs), climb, stoop, kneel, bend, pull, push, reach, handle, write, type, speak, hear, see (depth perception, color vision), calculate, compare, edit, evaluate, interpret, and organize for extended periods of time.

    COVID-19 Vaccination 

    Howard University Hospital requires all external applicants to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before commencing employment.  External Applicants may be required to furnish proof of vaccination and, if offered, may elect to be vaccinated at a designated Howard University Hospital location. 

    Required Skills
