POSITION: Civil Engineering Manager
LOCATION: Utica, NY
SUMMARY: Our client is looking for a Civil Engineering Manager to join their dedicated team. The Civil Engineering Manager will perform independent professional engineering and administrative work in planning and supervising the design, financing, construction, and maintenance of projects. The ideal candidate will be PE licensed, technically competent, situationally aware, and politically savvy.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:- Overseeing 9 Assistant Engineers and 2 administrative staff to facilitate capital improvement projects across highways and facilities, managing over $20 million in projects per year.
- Collaborating with the hiring manager on major projects and policy decisions.
- Ensuring effective project management practices are followed, including scope, schedule, design management, budget control, and review.
- Preparing and presenting detailed reports on project progress, budget status, and resource allocation to stakeholders.
- Ensuring all engineering and construction activities comply with local laws, regulations, and standards.
- Overseeing the procurement process, including the development of bid specifications and the evaluation of bids.
- Coordinating with governmental agencies, contractors, and the public to facilitate project approvals and execution.
- Monitoring and evaluating the performance of engineering staff, providing guidance, and conducting performance reviews to ensure high standards of work quality and efficiency.
- Overseeing the maintenance and improvement of existing infrastructure to ensure safety and functionality.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures for operations.
- Staying updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in civil engineering.
- New York State Professional Engineer (P.E.) License required
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred
- OR Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering
- Transcripts required to show proof & date of education completion
- 6 – 10 years’ proven civil engineering experience preferred
- OR 8 – 10 years’ proven environmental or mechanical engineering
- Strong technical project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well with a team & delegate tasks as required.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- Proficient in office software and communication tools.
- Driver’s license required.
- Full Time, 40-hours per week, schedule flexibility available
- Onsite with occasional travel to job sites as needed – a company vehicle will be provided
